Not many people would know that nature has placed an inbuilt alarm clock inside every person. People have been waking up at the desired time since the dawn of civilization even when there were no alarm clocks or any other instruments invented in those times. The use of mental alarm clock has worked through ages and it still works in the present days. How really does the mind keep track of the passing hours to help awake a person, is still not known. The phenomenon is shrouded in mystery as the scientists are working hard to find the details.
Let the scientists and psychologists unveil the mystery but we as common people are just interested to wake up early in the morning. When the success rate with mental alarm clock is very high then why we should not use it in our daily lives. Even if total reliance on it is not recommended, the mental alarm clock is very useful at least in making you mentally and physically prepared to wake up.
The Mechanism of Mental Alarm Clock
The research carried out so far on how this mental clock works has revealed some facts. According to the study the body releases a hormone, ‘adrenocorticotropin’, into the blood. This hormone helps the person to wake up. Once a person makes up mind at night to wake up at a certain time the next morning, the release of this hormone is expedited about one hour prior to that time, thus facilitating the wake up. Follow the Sleep Cycles
One sleep cycle consists of approximately one and half hour. These cycles keep repeating throughout the night. You should follow these cycles for the duration of the sleep so that once you select the time to wake up, it should coincide with the end of a sleep cycle. At the end of a cycle the sleep is lighter and hence easier for a person to wake up.
Fix a Time for Wake Up
Lie on the bed quietly, relax your muscles and close your eyes. Concentrate on the time at which you want to wake up, say 7 o’clock. Create an image of the figure 7 in your mind and fix it as a target figure. Repeat these words with yourself with conviction and willpower, “I will wake up at 7 o’clock in the morning”. While repeating these words, go to sleep. You will surely wake up at the desired time.
Keep the Alarm Clock as a Standby Arrangement

In order to ensure that you wake up at the desired time, set the time on the alarm clock also. The time set should be slightly later than what you ‘set’ on the mental alarm clock. Even if the mental clock fails to wake you up, you will have a standby arrangement.
